Dr. Mohammad Shahba
Professor in Film Studies, Art University of Tehran
Dr. Mohammad Shahba (born 1964) received his PhD in 2001 in Film Studies from the University of East Anglia, UK. He is currently associate professor in Film Studies at the Faculty of Cinema and Theatre, Art University, Tehran, Iran. Dr. Shahba has written and translated 45 books on film and drama, including Hamid Naficy’s A Social History of Iranian Cinema, Ken Dancyger’s Alternative Scriptwriting, Andre Bazin’s What Is Cinema?, Matrin Esslin’s Field of Drama, Wallace Martin’s Recent Theories of Narrative, and Geoff King's New Hollywood. Aesthetics of TV Talk Shows and News Programs (2011), Elements of Narration in TV Serials (2014), and A Dictionary of Film Genres (upcoming) are amongst his work as an author. In addition, he has published more than 100 papers in national and international journals on film, fiction, theatre, and translation. Besides teaching at national and overseas universities, Dr. Shahba has been engaged in scriptwriting (both for cinema and television), film editing, and producing TV programs. His most recent work for Iranian TV is “Cinema Genre” a 28-episode debate show on various film genres.

Dr. Josélia Neves
Professor in Translation Studies, Hamad Bin Khalifa University
Josélia Neves has a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures, an MA in English Studies, a PhD in Translation Studies, with a dissertation on subtitling for the deaf and the hard of hearing. She started her career as a language teacher but soon moved on to teaching in the domain of Translation Studies and Audiovisual Translation. Parallel to her teaching activities, she has worked as a freelance translator as a means to keep abreast of the developments and requirements of the field.
She has led a number of research projects with partners in the media, museums and cultural venues, the performing arts and education. Her special interest lies in developing action research projects that contribute towards making communication environments accessible to all. While living and working in Qatar, she continues to collaborate with European Universities both as a visiting professor and a researcher. She is a member of the TransMedia Research Group and a board member of the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation.
